In addition to educational planetary health modules, the planetary health report card, and the green book, UBC EnviroMed has been active in community engagement and academic discourse.
Our team has developed case reports for the UBC Medical Journal, collaborated with the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, promoted community engagement through workshops, and led community clean-ups.
All projects listed here are thanks to the efforts of many students over several years, through collaborations with groups such as the UBC Medical Undergraduate Society (MUS), MUS VP Planetary Health, UBC Global Health Initiative, UBC Medical Students for Climate Action, Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, and other independent contributors.
Academic Literature
In 2024, UBC medical students published a case report into volume 15, issue 2 of the UBC Medical Journal, “Healthcare and the Environment” discussing their work on integrating planetary health into the undergraduate medical curriculum.
Our students have presented their findings of eco-anxiety in primary health care at the Summit on Mental Health and Climate Change, 2023.

Collaboration with Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment

We’ve collaborated with CAPE on their regional committee and by continuing advocacy through workshops, talks, climate strikes, and education.
Community Engagement
We’ve hosted green challenges encouraging sustainable habits, educational workshops, and low-waste activities.

Community clean-ups
Cleanups are a fun, easy, and effective way to build community and reduce environmental pollution.

Fridays for Future Climate Rally
In 2019, UBC medical students joined the Fridays for Future climate strikes.
